Rebuilding Telomeres at 71: My Telo-Vital Baseline
I ordered this one on camera.
I was in the middle of interviewing Dr. Bill Andrews — the telomere scientist, 35 years in the field, over 50 patents — and by the end of the conversation I'd pulled out my phone and bought a bottle of the supplement he developed. I told him I'd report the results publicly. So here I am, two weeks in, starting the clock.
This is not the review. This is the baseline. The real review comes in January.
What Telo-Vital Actually Is
One capsule a day. That's the whole protocol, which I appreciate at my age — my counter already looks like a pharmacy.
Each capsule delivers 257 mg of what Touchstone Essentials calls the Telomerase Activator Blend: organic extracts of turmeric (curcumin removed), pomegranate, baical skullcap, hezi fruit, gallnut, and black pepper. Alongside that sits 220 mg of a Telomere Antioxidant Blend — organic wheatgrass powder and organic blackcurrant extract. The capsule itself is pullulan, so it's plant-based.
The turmeric detail is the interesting one. Most turmeric supplements are sold on their curcumin content. This one deliberately strips it out, because the telomerase signal Andrews' team was chasing lives in the other compounds.
Why Bill Andrews’ Name on the Bottle Means Something
I've sat across from a lot of people selling longevity products. Andrews is a different category. He's a molecular geneticist who has spent his career on one question: why do telomeres shorten, and can we stop it.
Telomeres are the protective caps on the ends of your chromosomes. Every time a cell divides, they get a little shorter. When they get short enough, the cell stops dividing properly — and a great deal of what we call “aging” looks a lot like that process playing out across the body. Telomerase is the enzyme that rebuilds them.
Andrews' team tested more than 10,000 plant extracts looking for natural telomerase activators. The ones that worked best in early screening were too toxic to swallow. The formulation work that followed — finding plant extracts that produced the same effect without the toxicity — is what eventually became Telo-Vital.
I went deeper on the science with him in my full interview with Dr. Bill Andrews — worth watching if you want the mechanism from the man himself rather than from me.
The Part Most Reviews Skip
Here's where I have to be straight with you, because I'm an affiliate for this product and you should weigh everything I say accordingly.
Telo-Vital has not been through human clinical trials. Touchstone Essentials says so themselves, right on their own product page. What the company has demonstrated is that these botanical extracts induce telomerase expression in human cells — in the lab, in cell culture.
That is real, and it's more than most supplements can show. It is also not the same thing as proving that swallowing a capsule lengthens telomeres in a living 71-year-old, or that doing so adds healthy years to his life. Those are three separate claims, and only the first one has direct evidence behind it right now.
Andrews also has a commercial interest in this product. He developed it and licensed it to Touchstone. I don't think that invalidates his science — the man was doing this work for decades before there was a bottle to sell — but you deserve to know it, the same way you deserve to know I earn a commission if you buy through my link.
I'm taking it anyway. At 71, I'm willing to make a bet on a mechanism I find plausible, from a scientist I've now spoken with at length, on a product with a clean ingredient panel and no obvious downside. That's a bet, not a certainty, and I'm not going to dress it up as one.
Two Weeks In
Nothing dramatic to report — and I'd be suspicious of myself if there were.
The company says most people need 90 days or more of consistent use before results show up. Two weeks of any supplement producing a life-changing transformation is almost always the placebo effect wearing a lab coat. I've been down that road enough times to recognize it.
What I can report: no stomach upset, no sleep disruption, no interaction I've noticed with anything else in my stack. One capsule with breakfast, every morning, no missed days. That's a boring report, and boring is exactly what you want from the first two weeks of a new supplement.
What I’m Measuring
Here's my honest limitation, stated up front: I don't have a telomere length baseline. I didn't order a telomere test before starting, and that's a miss on my part.
What I do have is a Function Health panel — a hundred-plus biomarkers and a calculated biological age, tracked over time. That's the yardstick.
My next full panel isn't until January 2027. That's not ideal for impatience, but it's better science than I'd have gotten in October. By then I'll have roughly six months of daily use behind me — double the 90 days Touchstone says most people need before anything shows up. If this stuff does something measurable, six months is a fairer test than three.
You should know what that panel can and can't tell us. A blood panel doesn't measure telomere length. It won't detect telomerase activation directly. What it can show is whether the broader markers that move with aging — inflammation, metabolic health, the things that actually make you feel 71 or 61 — shift in a direction worth noticing. If the mechanism is doing what Andrews believes it does, some of that should eventually show downstream. If nothing moves at all, that's information too, and I'll publish it either way.
That's the deal I make with you on this site. I don't only report the experiments that work.
Come Back in January
Mark the calendar. January 2027, fresh panel, and I'll write the post that actually matters — the one with numbers in it. Six months of daily capsules, measured against where I stand today.
No check-ins in between. I could tell you every few weeks how I feel, but feelings are the weakest evidence in longevity and I'd rather not waste your time with them. The bloodwork is the story, and the bloodwork comes in January.
If you want to run the experiment alongside me, here's my link. And if you'd rather wait for my January numbers before spending anything, honestly? That's the smarter move, and I won't be offended.
