Algae for Longevity After 70: My Upcoming Interview With Dr. Catharine Arnston (Send Me Your Questions)
The short version: Dr. Catharine Arnston, founder of ENERGYbits, is coming on The 200 Year Life Project to talk about algae and longevity. I already take her spirulina tablets every morning and chlorella every night, and I’ve read an early copy of her new book. Tell me what you want me to ask her.
I have a big interview coming up. Dr. Catharine Arnston, the founder of ENERGYbits, is coming on The 200 Year Life Project to talk about algae and longevity, and I want you to help me write the questions.
Who Is Dr. Catharine Arnston?

Dr. Catharine Arnston, founder and CEO of ENERGYbits. Photo courtesy of ENERGYbits.
Catharine built a successful business career, first in international business and then launching two companies of her own. Then in 2008, her younger sister was diagnosed with breast cancer, and her oncologist advised her to change to an alkaline diet. Catharine jumped in to help, and the research kept pointing to two algae, spirulina and chlorella, as the most nutrient-dense alkaline foods she could find. (Her sister made a full recovery.)
In 2010 she launched ENERGYbits, and she has spent more than 15 years since then teaching people about algae. She holds a PhD in Natural Health and an MBA in international business. One line of hers stuck with me the first time I heard it: “Aging is natural, declining is not.” That is pretty much the whole reason The 200 Year Life Project exists.
She Sent Me Her New Book Before the Interview

Before we sit down, Catharine’s team sent me an early review copy of her new book, Love Your Health to Bits with Algae. It doesn’t come out until March 2027, so you are hearing about it early.
I like to actually read the book and use the product before I interview someone. It makes for a much better conversation, and I can ask the questions you would ask if you were sitting in my chair.
I Already Take Her Algae Every Day

My ENERGYbits (spirulina) and RECOVERYbits (chlorella) on the kitchen counter.
This isn’t a product I am trying for the first time because a guest is coming on. Algae is already part of my daily protocol:
- Morning: ENERGYbits, which are spirulina tablets. I take them with my morning routine.
- Evening: RECOVERYbits, which are chlorella tablets. I take them at night.
You can see everything else I take, and when I take it, on my protocols page. You can get both at ENERGYbits, and the link takes 20% off. That is an affiliate link, so I earn a small commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you.
What Would You Ask Her?
This is where you come in. Here are a few things I already plan to ask:
- Why algae, and why spirulina in the morning and chlorella at night?
- What does algae actually do for our mitochondria as we get older?
- Is there anything different people over 70 should know about taking it?
- How does she take it herself, and how much?
What would you add? Leave your question in the comments below, and I’ll pick the best ones to ask Catharine during the interview. If I use your question, I’ll give you a shout-out on the show.
If you don’t want to miss the interview, subscribe to my YouTube channel. That is where the full conversation will go first.
You can see everything else I do in my protocols, follow my numbers on my tests and stats page, and check out my fitness routine.
Live long and prosper,
Gary
A note from Gary: I am not a doctor, and I am definitely not your doctor. I’m running a public experiment on myself, and I buy and take ENERGYbits and RECOVERYbits myself. If you take medication or have a health condition, talk to your physician before adding any supplement, including algae.
These are products I use on my push to 200. I only put something on this list after I’ve tested it on myself. The links are affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission at no cost to you.
